SCHOOL NIGHT FOR SCOUTING
Bobby Dusso, Lake Agassiz District Roundup Chairman, thanks the many volunteers in making this year's Roundup successful. Units reported that 130 new Scouts were recruited Thursday, September 16, 2010. The Lake Agassiz District School Night goal was 200 new Scouts. Many thanks to all volunteers who helped make this a successful Roundup and the hard work that went into recruiting Scouts. This year again we were able to access Grand Forks Schools Open Houses and all principles were glad that we were present at their open houses. Make sure you thank your school principle for their support. Many went out of their way to help us be successful. If you recruited two Scouts or forty-four Scouts you helped us towards our goal.
Thanks for a job well done unit leaders. Many thanks to the School Night Steering committee and volunteers who so positively took up this year’s challenge. It renewed my commitment to Scouting to see that even though we got word just before meet the teacher night all the Grand Forks units got their dates of their school nights into us before the Kid’s Connection guideline. People stood up to the challenge of recruiting boys into Scouting by calling parents that showed interest in having their sons join Cub Scouting at their Open Houses. Several outlying areas this year had tables set up at their meet the teacher nights or open houses and had very positive feedback from the school administration and parents. We still have opportunities to recruit new boys into Scouting before year ends. We have a list of all the boys in the Grand Forks Schools and their phone numbers. We will be working with units in inviting them by letters and calling and talking to their parents. Cities outside of Grand Forks can reflyer your school and invite boys to join by having an exciting activity or pack meeting. If you have a great event coming up in your pack or troop let us know about it so we can invite boys to join in all the fun. Let us know when your next pack meeting is and we will work with you on your recruiting efforts.
NEW CUB SCOUT CAMPOUT
October 1, 2010
On October 1 the Lake Agassiz District had their second annual New Cub Scout Camp out at Lincoln Park, Grand Forks. Over 25 new cub scouts and their families participated in this great event. About 50 scouts and family member stayed over and slept in a tent. For many new scouts this was their first time camping outside. They were treated with hot dogs, chips, water, soda, desert for supper, and rolls, orange juice, and milk for breakfast. The scouts got to shoot water rockets, make a tool box, make rope, and attended an evening campfire.

NEED IDEAS TO RECRUIT NEW YOUTH INTO YOUR PACK OR TROOP CONTACT MYRON AT 775-3189
To help meet the challenge of recruiting new youth into Scouting let Myron Barnes know that you are interested in developing a recruiting plan in your unit. It might take a little time but it will help recruit boys into Scouting. With limited access in Grand Forks we need to try different recruitment methods to see what works. We are ready to try some different marketing techniques in recruiting youth. What does it take, commitment to reach youth with limited school access, through brain storming recruiting ideas. Several of these can be set up with your next unit meeting. Some schools PTO‘s have school carnivals which would be a great place to have a booth with games and extra to recruit youth. Or if you have great ideas don’t be afraid of bringing it up.

CUB AND SCOUT LEADER ROUNDTABLE (November Theme: Citizenship)
Core Value for November theme is citizenship. Contributing service and showing responsibility to local, state, and national communities. Citizenship is an obligation we all share as Cub Scouts and leaders. One of the key components of being a god citizen is helping others. (December Theme: Respect)—Showing regard for the worth of someone or something. Cub Scouts will show respect and appreciation for everyone who helps with the pack. They will be courteous and show good manners at den and pack meetings.
Cub Scouts learn about the spirit of Scouting and the meaning of the season by performing a Good Turn for someone. Prepare an outing to work in the Grand Forks Mission, make decorations for a nursing home, or sing carols for the people who live there or have a Pack meeting at the nursing home. The opportunities to do a good turn are endless. Decorate a tree for the LISTEN CENTER in Grand Forks. Have your boys present a family in need with a Christmas gift or gifts and have them become stars to light up someone life. This would be a good month for your pack to view the Youth Protection DVD for boys and their parents “It Happened to Me. Other great things to do in December go sledding as a Cub Scout Pack, go Skating as a Cub Scout Pack. Start enjoying the outdoors.
BOY SCOUT ROUNDTABLES

At the October roundtable we covered Shooting Sports and setting up a camp promotion in your troop please let us know when your troop/webelos camp promotion will be.
