CUB SCOUT ROUNDUP/SCHOOL NIGHT “WORDS TO LIVE BY “KICK-OFF
GREAT EXCITING THEME FOR THIS YEARS CUB SCOUT AND SCOUT
ROUNDUP.
(All packs will receive a new Den and Pack Resource Guide outlining your den and pack meetings for the entire year)
Our theme again this year is “WORDS TO LIVE”. Cub Scouting is a great new marketing plan the National Boy Scouts put together and it will focus on the real purpose of the Scouting Program. The new flyers show action and fun that the boys will get when they join the Scouting program. Our District training nights for Pack Roundup Coordinators and helpers are scheduled for Thursday August 5th 7:00 P.M. at St. Olaf Lutheran Devils Lake and Thursday August 12th 7:00 P.M. at Holy Family Grand Forks. All Cub Scout Packs, Scout Troops and School Night Coordinators, Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Committee Chairman should attend this meeting to learn to recruit boys and volunteers into your programs. Come and learn about the tools to recruit new youth into Scouting. Let’s have a successful Recruitment Drive. Both roundup meetings are scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
This year’s Roundup is scheduled for Thursday, September 16, 2010.
Our goal is to recruit 200 boys into Scouting.
BOY SCOUT LAWN SOCIAL-IS AT MAYOR MIKE AND ANN BROWN’S HOME TUESDAY AUGUST 17TH 5:30 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M.
This year’s Boy Scout Lawn Social will be at Mayor Mike and Ann Brown Grand Forks. The cost is $75.00 per couple. Mayor Mike and Ann Brown would like to invite interested people to attend this fundraiser for the Scouting program and celebrate 100th Anniversary of Scouting. Mike and Ann Brown have a great location for the Lawn Social and are really looking forward to hosting this year’s event. This is a fundraiser for the Lake Agassiz District Northern Lights Council and everyone is invited to come. To make your reservations please contact Myron or Claudia at 775-3189. Don’t miss out on this one.
CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP 2010
This year’s Day Camp was great with over 190 boys participating. Cub Scouts, Leaders, and parents had to brave rain and cold, but they had a great time. Many thanks to the Leaders and their parents for making this event the best possible.
Also many thanks to Brian Stonecipher and his staff for spending many hours planning this event. Brian will be moving his family to Bismarck this summer and we will miss him as our Day Camp Chairman.
Also many thanks Liz Walker, Kristen Votova, Sandy Beich, and Rosemary Flynn for making this event successful.
POP CORN SIGN UP (more product and new containers for your money)
Every Pack will receive a marshmallow shooter/cross bow to give the boy who sells the first $600 of Popcorn in their unit.
This year’s Popcorn Sales sign up is at the School Night/Round-up kick-off on Tuesday August12th, 7:00 P.M. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Grand Forks, and August 5th 7:00 P.M. at St. Olaf’s Lutheran in Devils Lake. Make sure your Popcorn chairperson is present at one these two meetings. Popcorn Sales helps units fund exciting activities for boys and their families, and a lot of our units raise enough money through popcorn sales to run their Scout unit for a whole year. Think Popcorn. Units that set Popcorn goals sell a lot more popcorn than units that don’t set or have any goals.

If you missed this one. You will never see another Campout and Celebration like this for another 100 years. Several of our Troops and Packs joined over 3000 that attended the 100th Anniversary of Scouting in Bismarck, June 4th – 6th. Everybody that went had a great time, and participated in many activities including, learning about our state government, participating in passing laws, learning about citizenship etc. Also the Merit Badge Midway was great. Two pass Scouters Roger Smart and Robert Dusso from the Lake Agassiz District brought their Scouting Memorabilia displays to Bismarck. The Saturday night stage show was great and church service Sunday morning was super.

FORT TOTTEN STUDENTS GO TO CAMP WILDERNESS EVERY YEAR
As part of our Scoutreach program at Fort Totten, the Middle School and High School Students attend Camp Wilderness each spring. They learn about their culture, leadership skills, and have fun socializing. The Middle School has been attending Camp Wilderness for several years, and the area High Schools on the Spirit Lake Reservation have attended two years. The students enjoy Camp Wilderness Outdoor Experience (Project COPE) and look forward to this activity every year.
HOOKED ON SCOUTING RECRUITS OVER 50 NEW CUB SCOUTS
Many thanks to Cabela’s East Grand Forks for hosting Lake Agassiz Hooked on Scouting which recruited over 50 boys into the Scouting Program. New Scouts and their parents learned the rules and regulations of fishing, how to rig a hook and sinker (big sinker due to the Red River current) and bait a hook. Even though the river was high over 14 cat fish were caught that evening. Also many thanks to Cabela’s employees, and Scouting volunteers that made this successful.
